The cybersecurity week camp was pretty extensive, complex and very deep. VirtualBox with Kali linux, wireshark, linux skills, a hash function cracking. It exceeded my expectations as a parent. It felt pretty hard for my daughter, as she was completely new to the topic and to linux itself, but even then she liked it and understood quite a lot.
Also, communication during the process was easy and efficient.

A great learning experience

My son really enjoyed the cyber security hackathon in person camp. He learned a lot and, together with the coding that he also learned from Funtech, he's keen to keep learning and incorporating these skills as part of his career plans.

Summer Camps 2024

I enrolled my son into 2 summer 2024 camps - Python Coder L1 and Hackathon.
He loved them both and had a great time.
He said the teachers were very knowledgeable and lessons were planned well.
He will definitely be back to try more.

Excellent introduction to hacker craft

I'm really pleased with my son's time at the Cyber Security Hackathon camp. Based on the description, I was hoping he'd get a chance to experience some "close to the metal" system administration, and get to know how to use tools like the command line and lower level protocols like http, ftp, etc....

I'm really pleased with my son's time at the Cyber Security Hackathon camp. Based on the description, I was hoping he'd get a chance to experience some "close to the metal" system administration, and get to know how to use tools like the command line and lower level protocols like http, ftp, etc. It sounds like that's exactly what he got. The camp counsellor/teacher was herself an experienced programmer. It sounds she did an excellent job building a rapport with him and getting him to engage with the material.

Hackathon Happiness!

My son had a great time on the Cyber Security Hackathon camp. He is very interested in ethical hacking so this was the perfect camp for him. He loved the practical challenges as well as learning how to use new software and he's much more security conscious as a result of attending the camp.

My son had a great time. Long days, nicely broken up with play times, and he came away feeling like he had learned a lot.

Really rewarding

Our son loved this course, it really piques their interest in how networks and interactions work. Hopefully he won't be on the FBIs most wanted list now. In all seriousness though, he really wants to come back and loved interacting with the other kids, thanks for all the 1:1 support!

I did provide verbal feedback to one of your colleagues after the course but I'll try and summarise it, seems a long time ago already! Sophocles had been looking forward to the course for months and he enjoyed his time. The first morning was a little frustrating as despite the reminders you had sent, some children arrived without the correct software installed which delayed the start of the session. The pace of the first day was slow as the course caters for a wide age range and ability of children and there were no extension activities to complete, but he didn't make this known to the tutors. This improved on the second day after he had asked for further activities. They spent a long time in the same room, not sure if they went out much at breaktime and lunchtime to make the most of the school's play areas. I'd also have a mobile phone policy where the children hand them in and get them back at the end of the day otherwise they spend their freetime on more screens rather than engaging with each other. I know that all sounds negative, sorry it's not meant to be - overall it was something different for Sophocles, not something he would otherwise have learned about, and he is hoping to go into cyber security as a career so your tutors definitely did lots right (and it was great to see that they weren't all male

Great Week!

This is my daughter's second Funtech residential and she is planning her third! She thoroughly enjoyed herself, the course seems perfectly tailored to the right balance of learning and downtime.

We were looking for a tech oriented summer camp and came across Funtech's offering. We were intrigued by the hackathlon which seemed to align with our son's inclinations. We decided to give it a try, not sure if the level would be adequate nor if the overarching experience would be worth organising an international journey.
We were blown away. The whole thing is beautifully organised, the location is superb, the instructors extremely competent and going to a great length to ensure that kids leared and had fun.
Our son was so enthusiastic that he is already asking to go back next year. Rarely we had such an all-great feedback from him. He is thrilled, and so we are.

My 15 year old wasn't sure what he had been signed up to on the cybersecurity day camp but really enjoyed his week and proclaimed it to have "absolutely flown by" and been "much better than I thought it would be". He learnt lots, made friends and it has helped him firm up his education choices for his future. His tutor was engaging, relatable and taught him a lot. Thoroughly recommended.

Cybersecurity Hackathon

This was great for my daughter of 16yrs. It was very engaging. She came home feeling tired. She learnt about vulnerabilities and a bit about using linux and VMs and networking. The instructors were good.

My daughter enjoyed Hackathon very much and felt that she learned a lot during that week. The staff and the instructors were wonderful. My only issue with the Barbican location is that they were stuck indoors the entire day due to the lack of outdoor space. It happened to be one of the hottest weeks of the summer too. Ideally, it would have been great to have some proper screen breaks outside, but I understand why that was difficult, given the location.

Best Experience

Would like to thank everyone for an exceptional, amazing, enjoyable week for my daughter. The courses were at the high professional level, very informative and age appropriate. My child felt safe, entertained, the food was Amazing. I would highly recommend the residential camp for your child.

Great experience

My 10 year-old had a great time at Tonbridge. The camp was well-organized, with a good mix of classes, fun activities and regular timed- breaks.

A wonderful experience overall.

Cybersecurity Residential Camp

My son had a great week away at the residential cybersecurity camp this summer. His instructor was engaging and a great communicator, my son really enjoyed the course. The dormitories were super. Food was good.

We will definitely be booking again next summer.

It was our first camp with Funtech and we were not disappointed.

My son enjoyed every minute of his time in the Day Camp. He has learned a lot during the week and we are planning to book another camp already.

We were so grateful that my son Krish got the opportunity to experience the residential camp at Tonbridge - Hackathon Cybersecurity.

The venue is stunning and it is a wonderful experience to learn in such a beautiful setting. Krish has been a student of term time classes with Funtech for a number of years.

I can truly say that Funtech is more than a corporate entity, everyone, all the staff, from the helpers to the Founder Sheineez genuinely care for the children and it is very refreshing to see and exceptionally reassuring as a parent. I could leave Krish with the confidence and full faith that he will be safe and engaged during his week long stay at Hackathon.

Krish was excited by what he learnt coupled with the confidence he gained from making new friends. I would love Krish to attend more camps and my only regret is we did not send him sooner!

The teachers were so friendly and helpful. They went over the most important aspects in cybersecurity. My kids learnt a lot. However, Arar has experienced bullying from the two boys who are 14 and 15r years old. The problem is that the trainers have no control on the students in class which may cause bit disruption in class. I would recommend more control policy on bullying. Other than that, everything was excellent.

Hackathon Northwood 1st-5th August 2022

Hackathon was a great introduction to cyber security and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was delivered efficiently, professionally and with aplomb by the Funtech team right from enrolment through to completion.
I would highly recommend this course to others.

Joshua attended the 1-week residential course 'Hackathon - Cyber Security' at Tonbridge School. Joshua enjoyed himself thoroughly, and the course was everything we'd hoped for. The balance of social activities, interaction with other children, and supportive instructors was excellent. A holiday, where academic learning occurred every day, and independence flourished for our child. Plus, top quality accommodation and food. The course has useful content as the kids understand the vulnerability of networks to hacking, learn about the concept of cybersecurity and how to distinguish between different hacking types. The course equips them to an extent with the skills to perform certain tasks related to cybersecurity.
The tutors were knowlegeable and friendly including those part-time tutors who are still undergraduate students.
The facilities were superb, including the single occupancy dormitory and the airconditioned classrooms, and even though the hardware was not always up to the requirements of the course, there were only minor issues and Funtech is committed to source more powerful macines next time.
I could not comment much on the activities offered as my son preferred the option of "sit in the shade" in the afternoon rather than engaging in the field games, but given this year's very hot weather, this was not for the lack of the choice but due to his preference.
Thank you for running this course after Covid delays, my son enjoyed it a lot.

Having visited the venue at pickup, the venue marred from expectations, the rooms had little natural light and the kids didn't seem to have outside space to hang out in. I appreciate that it was completely to do with Covid and hopefully next year you will be able to run things in the school camp at Westminster.

My 12 year old son attended the cyber security Hackathon course this summer. He is not the easiests child to get to attend holiday camps and so we were a bit apprehensive as to how it would go. However, he really loved the course! He found it just about the right level of challenge but also great fun. My son really liked the course leader who really 'knew his stuff' but was also fun and engaging.
We had a few issues before the course started about course venue etc and these were all sorted out very efficiently by the Fun tech team. Overall our experience with Fun tech has been extremely positive and we would definitely look at booking courses in the future.

Divya was delighted to have completed the Cyber Hackathon course. Even though it was hard in the beginning for her(she has just completed year 8), the staff happily went over it again and again and she was understood the course and was very happy to do it.
She is considering a career in Cyber Security, so this course has laid a good groundwork in that journey.
As parents, we were happy with the course, location, facilities and friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Eric really enjoyed his week at funtech. The staff members were patient and understanding with him. He learned alot too. We rated it 10 out of 10.

Happy teenager

My 15 year old son initially did not want to attend this summer camp. He reluctantly agreed to try the first day, and was adamant that he would stay home for the rest of the week. But he ended up completing the whole 5 days, and is now considering switching his PC from Windows to Linux :-)

Lots of new stuff learned. My son really enjoyed the week.
